In 2025, WBENC continues its legacy of honoring exceptional women business owners through the WBE Star Award. Each WBE Star has been hand-selected by one of the 14 Regional Partner Organizations, with a special focus this year on honoring those who embody the spirit of “ACCELERATE” by championing progress, growth, and advancement for themselves, their businesses, and the communities they serve. The WBE Star Award stands as a powerful acknowledgment of the profound impact these extraordinary women have made throughout their careers, shaping industries and inspiring lasting changes in their communities.

The 2025 WBE Stars will be celebrated throughout the year, culminating at the vibrant WBENC National Conference from June 23-26, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Sugar Bliss was launched as a Catering business in 2007, with an expansion into retail soon after in 2009. Starting with 20 cupcake flavors, Sugar Bliss’ offerings soon expanded to include over 200 baked goods varieties, including cupcakes, cake pops, French macarons, cookies, brownies, and morning pastries. Sugar Bliss has become one of Chicago’s most beloved bakeries with nationwide shipping. Now expanding beyond its storefront, Sugar Bliss has introduced packaged cookies available at retailers and in food service. Wisdom from WBE Star, Teresa Ging

What does “ACCELERATE” mean to you in the context of the WBENC Network?

“ACCELERATE” is about supporting and uplifting women-owned businesses in the WBENC network. To me, it means being part of a community where we work together, share resources, and help each other grow. We break barriers and inspire the next generation of women to keep moving forward.

How have you driven or influenced ACCELERATION for women-owned businesses within your network?

In 2022, when we launched Sugar Bliss packaged cookies into retailers, we were deeply committed to empowering women and minority entrepreneurs. A portion of our retail packaged cookies proceeds to support women and minority entrepreneurs in obtaining certifications. We have provided over 20+ scholarships through the Sugar Bliss Scholarship to help more women entrepreneurs get certified, opening doors to new opportunities and business growth.

For business owners and leaders who are looking to ACCELERATE their success, what key advice or actionable steps would you recommend for them to implement today?

For business owners and leaders looking to accelerate their success, here are several key strategies and actionable steps to implement immediately:

  • Build Authentic Relationships: Networking is one of the most powerful drivers of business growth. Cultivate meaningful relationships with peers, customers, suppliers, and corporations. Being part of influential networks like WBENC and local business organizations can open doors to new opportunities, collaborations, and strategic partnerships that propel your business forward.
  • Embrace Continuous Innovation: Stay ahead of the curve by monitoring industry trends and adapting your business model to meet evolving demands. Whether it’s introducing new products, using AI, or implementing more sustainable practices, innovation ensures your business remains relevant, competitive, and poised for growth.
What strategies do you use to stay motivated and inspired as a leader?

As a leader, staying motivated and inspired is crucial for both personal growth and the success of the business. Here are a few strategies I use to maintain that motivation:

  • Aligning with Purpose: I constantly remind myself of the deeper purpose behind Sugar Bliss—empowering women, supporting minority entrepreneurs, and driving sustainability. This mission keeps me focused on the bigger picture and inspires me to continue pushing forward, even when challenges arise.
  • Setting Clear Goals: Breaking down long-term goals into smaller, achievable milestones helps me stay focused and driven. Celebrating these small wins along the way boosts my morale and provides a sense of accomplishment.
  • Learning and Growth: I make a conscious effort to continue learning, whether it’s attending industry and business conferences or participating in business cohorts. Embracing new ideas and learning keeps me inspired, allowing me to adapt, innovate, and grow my business.
  • Building a Supportive Network: Surrounding myself with a network of passionate, like-minded individuals—including employees and fellow entrepreneurs—provides encouragement and fresh perspectives. Sharing ideas, celebrating successes, and supporting one another helps me maintain energy and enthusiasm.

By staying grounded in purpose, focusing on continuous growth, and surrounding myself with a supportive network, I’m able to remain motivated and inspired as a leader, fueling both personal and business success.

What suggestions would you like to share with a newly certified WBE who is looking to get involved in the WBENC community?

For a newly certified WBE looking to get involved in the WBENC community, here are some key suggestions:

  • Maximize Your Certification: Incorporate your certification everywhere—on your website, marketing materials, business cards, and email signatures. Also, ensure your company is listed in supplier diversity portals, which can connect you with major corporations seeking certified partners.
  • Take Full Advantage of WBENC Resources: WBENC provides an array of valuable resources, including educational programs, webinars, and industry insights. Leverage these to continuously enhance your knowledge and skills, positioning your business for growth and success.
  • Engage in WBENC National and Regional Events: These events are excellent for making key connections with potential clients, suppliers, and collaborators. Don’t just attend—actively participate, as these events are an ideal opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and explore industry trends. The more you engage, the more doors will open for your business.
  • Foster Relationships with Corporate Partners: Many large corporations are actively seeking certified WBEs to collaborate with. Focus on building meaningful, long-term relationships with these companies. Doing so can unlock significant opportunities for growth, partnerships, and larger contracts.

By staying proactive, fully utilizing the resources available to you, and building genuine relationships, you’ll be well on your way to making the most of your WBENC certification and driving your business forward.
